MELTA “ShopTalk”

16 April 2010

2-5 p.m.

Gasteig, Rm 3.147

Teaching Resource Review and Assessment

A range of EFL publishers in Germany and beyond routinely send MELTA review copies of coursebooks, dictionaries, literature and other resources geared to everyone from children to adults. These include general English course books as well as special interest resources and test preparation material.

Although we attempt to circulate things and get many of the resources reviewed MELTA News, they still accumulate. This hands-on “show and tell” will offer participants the opportunity to peruse, discuss and review these resources, which will be sorted into related groups and participants given the opportunity to select the group of their choice or interest. Groups will then spend time reviewing and discussing the focus and usability of the materials before reporting to the larger group in the second half of the afternoon workshop.

You’ll then be able to take one or more of the books with you when you leave. Of course, we’ll ask you to write an official review of one of them for a subsequent issue of MELTA News, but the time you’ve had interacting with the material and the notes you’ve made during your group’s discussion should assist you in preparing a helpful review for the benefit of other trainers.

MELTA workshops are included in the annual membership. Non-members are welcome to join us, however, there will be a €10 fee for this afternoon workshop.
Please register your interest in attending the session by contacting Rod Zook, MELTA Events Coordinator, at events@melta.de

Those who have time after the workshops typically spend an hour or so at Gast. Feel free to join us around 5:15 for that event, if you can’t join us for the entire afternoon. Please indicate whether you’ll be at Gast when you register. We’ll reserve enough space.
